Blogging – Advertising Your Blog in Your Email Signature

Blogs today can be used for all sorts of reasons. However most blogs are used to for either social or business purposes. Social blogs are information blogs with let others know what is happening in your life and are used as a way of corresponding with friends, social contacts and families. Business blogs are information blogs about things happening in your business or particular business environment, new products, new ideas on how to benefit from existing products and announcements of sales and specials on certain products.
If you have a personal or social blog what better way to let your family and friends know about it than to add a link to your blog in your email signature. If you have written all the relevant information on your blog you no longer have to worry about leaving something out in your personal emails if you include a link to your blog in your signature. It can also cut down on the time it takes to copy and paste and write information in each individual email you send to your friends and family.
The real benefit of a social blog over an email is that you can include lots of pictures or photos, videos and podcasts that would make emails very big in size and take forever for everyone to download. Not only that your blog virtually archives all this information so that you only have to open one website link and not multiple emails to get the same information.
If you have a business blog it can be like an extension of all the emails you send out to you customers. You no longer have to send then long boring emails that can be caught by spam filters. You can just send a simple email with a link to your blog or individual entries in your blog. If you send links to individual blogs posts and add your home page link in your email signature it gives the reader the opportunity to click on it to find out more about your business and products.
Affiliate marketers send emails out to their lists about affiliate products that they recommend so what better way to further promote these affiliate products than to use a blog link in your signature that gives more information and reviews about these products.
Most email programs allow you to create signature files that can be automatically inserted in all the emails you send. If you only send personal emails or business emails it is a great idea. However if you send both types of emails you must have your default signature set for either personal or business. If you set the default for business you must take care to change it if you send personal emails.
For business emails you should have something catchy in your signature to attract attention and get your readers click through to your blog. It should be crafted so that interested people click through but not to scare off those who are not interested.

Many real estate professionals have an e-mail signature with their name, the name of the company, a phone number, and the web address. Many small business people do the same. But is that factual information enough? And should you limit using a signature to only your business correspondence?
The answer is no, to both questions. Used properly, your e-mail signature can be a silent salesman for your business. So make some additions to the factual information.
First, if you serve a geographic area, add your city, so everyone knows where you are. Then you need a tag line. That’s something short and sweet that conveys what you do.
If you’re in real estate you might use a line about your specialty – “Serving the Highland Hills area of Mytown,” or right now, “Call on me for Short Sale Success”
If you’re an electrical contractor, you’ll want to show whether you’re in commercial or residential construction, or if you do rehab work.
If you’re a hairdresser your tag line can let people know if you’re an expert at the latest mod hairstyles or if grandma will love you because you know how to make a pin curl.
Why do you need all this information at the end of an email?
For one thing, even our friends don’t always think about what we do for a living. Especially our on-line friends who may never have met us in real life. Your signature on your email is a constant, yet subtle reminder of what you do.
This could be very valuable if you sell products on line, especially if you change the signature now and then to reflect a sale or a special purchase item. But it could be a valuable tool for gathering new business contacts even if you provide a service in a specific geographic location.
That’s because emails are often forwarded on to other people. You may live in Montana and write to a friend in Florida. But by the time it gets forwarded a few times, your email and your signature could very well end up back in a computer that’s a mile from where you’re sitting. And that could bring you new business.
Think about your own actions. When a friend forwards you a funny joke or useful information, don’t you forward it on to others who might enjoy it? And don’t you notice if it has a signature at the end?
Even better, when you keep seeing the same name attached to messages that resonate with you, don’t you start to feel a little like you know that person?
You might not consciously think it, but in the back of your mind you will probably be feeling: “This person thinks a lot like I do.” And of course, when you start thinking someone is a lot like you, you automatically think they’re a pretty darn good person.
The danger here, of course, is in sending messages that would turn people away. So if you have a good friend and sometimes share jokes that are a bit on the colorful side, or share opinions that are politically charged, it might be a good idea to remove your signature. You know that kind always gets forwarded to at least one other person!
